Magyar Posta is expanding its fleet with 130 new Volkswagen Crafter delivery vans in the largest vehicle procurement project in recent years. The company expects to deliver over 7 million parcels during the festive season at the end of the year. The service provider is offering a full range of postal services at more than 3,500 outlets throughout Hungary and recommends posting parcels for Christmas by 18 December.
The timing of the fleet expansion is not by chance, as the volume of parcels handled by Magyar Posta peaks in the last months of the year. Experience shows that, compared to the annual average, there is a 30 to 40% increase in daily parcel volumes in the Christmas season, starting with the Black Friday promotions. This is backed up by the results of the company’s national e-commerce research conducted this year, which showed that 82% of Hungarian internet users buy products online.
The new fleet unit of Volkswagen Crafters is comprised of vehicles that meet the latest safety and environmental standards and have a larger load space and advanced on-board systems which enable parcel delivery drivers to work more efficiently. The vans will enter service gradually across the country to ensure that the high volume of Christmas parcels is handled smoothly.
The new vans, the robotised fulfilment service and the modern parcel lockers mean that operations will be faster than ever before. However, everyone can help to make sure that they receive the presents they intend to give to their loved ones for Christmas by ordering the gifts in good time. Also, Magyar Posta reminds its customers to do all they can to ensure that their Christmas parcels are posted by 18 December for them to be delivered on time. Parcels can be posted and picked up at some 3,500 postal points nationwide, in Magyar Posta’s own network of post offices, at postal partners and at MPL parcel lockers.
